1981 CX Reflex Familiale

Noticed a For Sale post on aussiefrogs. A member in Brisbane was reducing his fleet of cars and had posted two options. The second caught my eye, being a "Familiale" - station wagon with eight seats. During conversation with my wife and son mentioned the car. Much to my surprise my wife suggested I replace the CX in the shed with this one.

Over the course of the next few days I exchanged emails with Donat, the seller, and obtained images and additional information. Following discussion with my wife as well as emails to Bob and Justin it was decided to buy the car. Sight unseen and on the strength of the sellers information.

Donat was of the opinion that I was crazy, to drive the car across from Brisbane to WA, but that he was confident that the car was fit for the journey.

With my wife planning to visit her mother in Sydney in the next month I will accompany her, fly to Brisbane where Donat will meet me and I'll drive the car back to Sydney. Here I'll have the car serviced before driving it back to WA via Orange, Dubbo and Adelaide to visit friends and relatives.

This one of ten known privately imported Familiales and is one of two that were automatics. Of the others one was a C-matic and the rest five speed manuals. There were a mix of petrol and diesel engines.

Final image is of a car in Melbourne - also a Familiale - that shows the second and third rows of seats.
Eight seats in all and still reasonable cargo space.
