At the 2009 French Car Festival he displayed his C5 and also an XM he had in his 'fleet'. The XM won a prize during the day for its presentation and condition. By the time I contacted him the second time, after he'd had another member inspecting the car, the price had gone up. No longer was it $500 but now $600 - with an extension of the registration (full) and a new battery installed it became an even better value.
Finally I was in Perth and had time to look at the car. The external paint work is very poor. Cracked and crazed with the roof down to bare, rusted metal in places. Polished to death?!?! Rust? Only two obvious spots - drivers door hinge area on 'A' column & lower front edge of RHS front mudguard.
Interior: carpets like new as they have been protected by mats, seats fine apart from the drivers and a mouse nibble on the rear centre arm rest. Roof lining gone due to mice as well. Doors! Well the usual cracked and broken plastics that seem to be the norm on a CX from what I have read.
Car started, with a little choke, from cold and settled down to a steady idle quickly. Hydraulics
into action and the car rose promptly. Pushing down on the corners yielded good bounce back so suspension
seems to be fine.
When the owner fitted the new battery last week he started the car for the first time in months. He said
it started easily and he drove it to Armadale (Perth suburb) and back without any dramas. Said the previous
owner had kept it well maintained mechanically and serviced regularly. Just couldn't keep up with the
cost of the paint and panel work needed.
Looks like I'll need to learn how to wield a spray gun!
(Haven't asked if the new CX has a name yet)
When I asked was told it was 'Bronzey' after the paint colour - what there is left.
