The problem faced by all Dee owners at some stage seems to be clocks. The failure of these seems to be as certain as death and taxes.
What to do about them? Buy one from a wrecker? AS the years march on there aren't many left in scrapped cars. Buy one on ebay? When a working one does come up over $100 is often the price some keen buyers pay.
How about a replacement movement? Yes, it is possible and not too difficult.
After purchasing a Holden Commodore VH Car Dash Quartz Clock by VDO for $20 + $6 for postage because its quoted dimensions matched the Dee's I keenly awaited delivery.
When it arrived it was slightly smaller and may have fitted into the space but because the face was different I didn't even try it. Instead I dismantled it.

Found that the plastic mount for the face on the VDO unclips at two places and will lift off. The Jaeger face is slightly larger and offset slightly. Solution involves sanding raised edges on two sides to allow Jaeger face to sit flat.

The plastic mounting plate needs the high edge at the rear and to the right removed. As the plastic is brittle I found the easiest way to safely remove the edge was to rub it on sandpaper until it was almost level with the base.

The Jaeger face is then glued to the VDO faceplate. Below are the VDO movement and the Jaeger case. The metal case needs to have the back cut out as the VDO movement is longer.

Here is the Jaeger face glued to the VDO clock. The original metal casing is alongside the Jaeger movement. It will need the back cut out to accommodate the larger unit. The rubber plate visible retains the movement in the shell.

Above is the completed unit ready to go back into the case. Once I've had the back cut out I'll update this page.
